Mariposa Dress

Size Guide

A full and flowing silhouette designed to give you effortless style and comfort. The oversized puff sleeves and tiered skirt bring a subtle drama to every movement. The keyhole button closure on the back makes this dress easy to pull on and off.

Our favorite thing about this dress is how easy it is to style! We love the Mariposa dress simply paired with sneakers for a day out with friends. Dress it up with loafers or heels and a couple pieces jewelry for a night out.

The Mariposa dress is available with or without elasticated sleeves.

Material and Care

1. Fabric: Organic Cotton Double Gauze

Fiber Content: 100% Organic Cotton

Description: This double gauze fabric is incredibly soft and flowy. It is lightweight and breathable, a light breeze will give this fabric movement. Double gauze is made up of two layers of fine gauze seamlessly tacked together making it opaque. We recommend wearing skin colored undergarments with the white double gauze.

Care: Wash cold on delicate cycle and hang dry. The Earth and your garments will thank you!

Possibly my new favorite Sotela piece

I LOVE this dress. It has such a nice flow and movement to it, and I feel like I can wear it to work or out somewhere or just hanging around. The gingham fabric is really nice, I love the texture.

My New Favorite

This dress is absolutely beautiful. From the length, ruched sleeves, material, and more. It is my new go to!

This dress is everything

I have never owned a dress that I loved so much I never wanted to take it off! This dress is the perfect length, fits perfectly at the bust with a lovely flowy skirt and sleeves, and is easy on/easy off. The terra color goes with everything and the cotton gauze is substantial but light. Best summer dress I’ve owned in a long time and definitely worth the wait!

Sotela's approach to sizing is a little different. Instead of using the conventional small, medium and large, we've decided to change our wording because why not! We want to keep things simple and offer the most out of your clothing.

Here's a step by step of how to choose your Sotela size:

  1. Measure yourself – This one is very important if you shop online, which as of now, I think we all are! Check out our tutorial to measure yourself because we use low hip measurements with our clothing.
  2. Once you have your measurements, go to the product page for the garment you are interested in and click on the “Sizing and fit” tab or “Garment Measurements for Petite, etc.”
  3. The garment measurements on the product page will tell you the actual width and length of the garment. For example: the Ryan Trouser measures 26″ with an unstretched waistband and 42″ in the hip for the size 1.
  4. Based on your measurements, choose a size that is about 2″ more than your largest measurement. For example: I have a 39″ hip. The size 1 hip measures 42″ which gives me about 3″ of ease. The size 0 measures 40″ in the hip making it too small for me.
  5. Make sure to use your largest measurement when choosing a size, especially if you are looking at a jumpsuit or dress. If your bust is larger than your hip, I’d recommend choosing a size based on your bust because that ensures it will give sufficient ease for the rest of your body.
  6. Lastly, if you are still unsure, email us hello (at) with your measurements! We are happy to recommend a size.

The video below can give you a better idea of how to measure yourself!
